Governor Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto State has been officially affirmed as the All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial candidate for the 2027 general election. The announcement was made by the Chairman of the APC Governorship Affirmation Committee, Muhammad Mukhtar Birniwa, during a ceremony held in the state capital.
Aliyu's Commitment to Development
Shortly after his affirmation, Governor Aliyu expressed his determination to build on the people-oriented projects his administration has executed over the past three years. He emphasized that security, infrastructure, religious affairs, and social welfare would remain top priorities. “I want to assure the people of Sokoto State that we will continue to do all that is humanly possible to support our security agencies in curbing banditry and other criminal activities in the state,” he stated.
The governor also promised more dividends of democracy if re-elected for a second term. “I am committed to serving the people even better than we have done in the last three years,” he added. He appealed to residents to maintain their support for government policies and programmes, thanking them for their prayers and goodwill.
Wamakko and APC Leaders Praise Aliyu
Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, the APC leader in Sokoto State, commended Aliyu for meeting expectations through various developmental projects. “Mr. Governor, I am very pleased with the way you are addressing the challenges that had hindered the development of our state in the past,” Wamakko said. He also urged the people to continue backing the administration.
Sokoto State APC Chairman Haruna Adiya highlighted key achievements, including the payment of accumulated gratuities, prompt salary payments, youth empowerment initiatives, and the promotion of Islamic affairs. “These laudable achievements have necessitated the decision of the people of the state to unanimously endorse you for a second term,” Adiya noted.
Affirmation Committee's Observations
Birniwa lauded Aliyu's transformative agenda, describing the developmental projects as visible and impactful. “We will report to the APC National Secretariat the impressive developmental projects we have seen, which your administration has executed within just three years,” he said. He also praised the cordial relationship between Aliyu and Wamakko, calling it key to the successes of the APC-led administration in the state.
Birniwa commended Wamakko for his fatherly role in Sokoto and across Nigeria. “Sir, we need leaders like you who remain close to the people,” he added. He also appreciated the delegates for their orderly conduct during the affirmation exercise.
