The Delta State Government has restated its unwavering dedication to the welfare of its citizens and the execution of high-standard development projects across the state.
Governor's Spokesperson Meets NUJ Leadership
This assurance was given by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Festus Ahon, on Tuesday, December 30, 2025. He spoke while hosting members of the Delta State Executive Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) during a courtesy call at his residence in Ughelli, the headquarters of Ughelli North Local Council Area.
Ahon emphasized that the administration led by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori is resolute in providing governance focused on the people's needs. This commitment persists despite the extensive infrastructural and developmental challenges present throughout the state.
Welfare as a Non-Negotiable Priority
According to the governor's spokesperson, the Oborevwori administration views the well-being of Deltans as fundamental and non-negotiable for achieving sustainable progress. He pointed out that this principle is evident in the multitude of capital projects and social intervention programs currently being implemented statewide.
"The governor has achieved more in two years than what some state administrations in the country accomplished in eight years," Ahon stated confidently.
He further explained that the projects are designed for longevity and durability. "These are enduring projects designed to stand the test of time and outlive this generation. We owe Deltans real value for every project delivered by this administration, and that is exactly what the governor is delivering," he added.
Fiscal Discipline and Media Partnership
Ahon highlighted the administration's strict fiscal responsibility, noting a significant achievement: all ongoing projects are being funded without the state government resorting to borrowing.
During the visit, Ahon expressed gratitude to the NUJ leadership and called for a continued collaborative relationship with the media. He stressed that such a partnership is crucial for fostering peace, stability, and effective governance in Delta State.
He assured journalists of the government's ongoing support, linking development directly to a peaceful environment. "My principal is a media-friendly governor. We will continue to make efforts to improve the welfare of journalists in the state. We need your continued support because when there is peace, development moves faster," Ahon remarked.
Concluding the engagement, the Chief Press Secretary promised that the requests presented by the NUJ delegation would be given due attention. He reaffirmed that his office remains permanently accessible to the union, serving as its representative within the government.
