Governor Fintiri Engages Turkish Envoy on Security and Youth Empowerment in Adamawa
Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State has reaffirmed his administration's commitment to tackling insecurity through substantial investments in education and youth development. This pledge was made during a high-profile meeting with the Turkish Ambassador to Nigeria, Mehmet Poroy, held at the Government House in Yola on April 13, 2026.
Educational Investments as a Key Strategy
Governor Fintiri emphasized that enhancing educational opportunities is central to reducing security challenges and fostering economic growth in Adamawa. He highlighted the success of over one hundred students from the state who are currently excelling in academic pursuits in Turkey, showcasing the positive outcomes of international educational partnerships.
The governor announced plans to expand sponsorship programs for more students to study abroad, alongside initiatives to boost local skills acquisition. He revealed that the state has established a School of Innovation and Entrepreneurship, aimed at equipping young people with practical skills to drive innovation and self-reliance.
Turkish Ambassador's Commitment to Support
In response, Ambassador Mehmet Poroy reiterated Turkey's dedication to assisting Nigeria in addressing insecurity and supporting internally displaced persons (IDPs). He detailed ongoing efforts, including the distribution of food and non-food relief items at the Malkohi IDP camp, which he personally visited.
The ambassador also disclosed that the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency plans to open an office in Abuja. This move is designed to strengthen development cooperation between the two nations and enhance vocational training programs across Nigeria, contributing to long-term stability and growth.

Beyond the meeting, Governor Fintiri has been active in promoting security and socio-economic development in Adamawa. He recently assured residents of continued efforts to improve safety measures and announced a project to reconnect Michika to the national electricity grid, expected to stimulate local economies and create jobs.
These discussions come in the wake of the governor being honored with the traditional title "Lakaa ka Michika" (the Shield of Michika) during the 2026 Michika Cultural Annual Festival, underscoring his role in community protection and cultural preservation.
