Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has inaugurated five new Special Advisers with a clear mandate to enhance collective effort within his administration. The governor emphasized that their primary role is to ensure the machinery of government functions without hitches for the benefit of the people.
Oath-Taking Ceremony at Government House
The swearing-in event took place on Friday, January 2, 2025, at the Executive Council Chambers inside the Government House located in Port Harcourt. Governor Fubara personally administered the oaths of office and allegiance to the five appointees.
The newly sworn-in Special Advisers are:
- Barr. Eloka Tasie-Amadi
- Prof. Peter Medee
- Emmanuel Frank Fubara
- Victor Ekaro
- Dr. Darlington Orji
A Call for Commitment, Not Ceremony
In his address, Governor Fubara made it clear that the appointments were not ceremonial but a strategic move to inject experienced hands into the system. He described the appointees as familiar faces who already understand the administration's philosophy, which should allow for seamless integration and productivity.
“What we are doing this afternoon is to bring in some persons on board to ensure that the wheels of governance continue to roll smoothly in our state,” the governor stated. He further explained that their understanding of the government's vision would make it easier to align with set goals.
High Expectations and a Warning Against Complacency
Governor Fubara charged the advisers to brace up for the task ahead, warning them against any form of complacency. He stressed that effective and people-centred governance can only be achieved through discipline, shared responsibility, and collective effort.
“My charge is simple because you already know what we have come to do. This is not for pleasure; it is work,” Fubara said, noting that expectations from the public are very high. He reminded them of the administration's social contract with the citizens of Rivers State, which is fundamentally to work and deliver tangible results.
“It is a rare opportunity. Do not let us down. Our social contract with the people of Rivers State is to work, and that is exactly what we have come to do,” the governor concluded, framing the appointments as a crucial step in fulfilling his promise of efficient service delivery.
