Gov Abiodun gives N2.5m to abandoned mother of triplets

In a heartwarming act of compassion, the Ogun State Government has come to the aid of a young mother who was left to fend for herself and her newborn triplets. Governor Dapo Abiodun has provided a substantial financial lifeline to support the family during a critical time.

A Desperate Situation at the Hospital

The story began on January 2, 2026, when Esther Shuaib, a 32-year-old mother from Isara in Remo North Local Council, gave birth to triplets at the General Hospital in Iperu. The joy of welcoming three new babies was tragically short-lived as her husband abandoned her at the healthcare facility. Esther, now a mother of five, was left in a precarious situation, struggling with the immense responsibility of caring for her newborns alone.

First Lady's Visit and Governor's Swift Intervention

The plight of the young mother caught the attention of the state's First Lady, Mrs. Bamidele Abiodun. She visited Esther at the Muhammadu Buhari Mother and Child Hospital where the mother and babies were receiving care. During her visit, the First Lady promised to personally inform the governor and seek long-term economic support for the family.

True to this promise, Governor Dapo Abiodun acted swiftly. On Thursday, January 9, 2026, he directed the presentation of a N2.5 million donation to Esther Shuaib. The governor was represented at the handover ceremony, which took place at the hospital premises, by the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hon. Adijat Adeleye.

Government's Commitment to Women and Child Welfare

Governor Abiodun stated that this financial support aligns with the state government's existing programmes designed to assist indigenes and encourage childbirth among women. He emphasized that the assistance rendered to Mrs. Shuaib is part of a broader series of interventions his administration has extended to women across Ogun State.

The governor further assured the public that his government has lined up various initiatives for women empowerment and development in the new year. He expressed a deep passion for supporting women, acknowledging their crucial roles in governance and societal development.

In her response, an overwhelmed Esther Shuaib expressed profound gratitude to Governor Abiodun for the timely intervention. The generous donation is expected to significantly alleviate the financial burden of raising five children, including three infants.
