An influential Ijaw grassroots organisation has publicly urged Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, to appoint Dr. Famous Sayerigha Eseduwo as the new Deputy Governor of the state.
A Call for Competence and Equity
The group, known as POLIVOX, made this significant appeal in a statement released on Friday, January 16, 2026. The statement doubled as a congratulatory message to mark Dr. Eseduwo's birthday. POLIVOX's Publicity Officer, Johnson Ebikeme, signed the document, which passionately outlined the reasons behind their endorsement.
According to the group, the vacancy created by the untimely passing of the former Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, presents a critical moment for the state. They argue that the Bayelsa West Senatorial District and Constituency 1, which previously held the seat, must not be sidelined to maintain political balance and equity.
Eseduwo's Distinguished Profile
POLIVOX described the birthday celebrant, Dr. Eseduwo, as a man of impeccable character and proven leadership. His life was highlighted as a testament to selflessness, dedication, honour, patriotism, and integrity.
The statement traced his journey from the creeks of Angalabiri Town in Sagbama Local Government Area of Bayelsa to the upper levels of Nigeria's public service. It praised his academic rigour, noting his education at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and the University of Texas, which forged a formidable intellect.
"Dr. Eseduwo is that figure. He possesses the rare fusion of grassroots understanding and federal experience, of academic depth and administrative dexterity," the group asserted.
A Unifying Choice for Bayelsa's Future
POLIVOX positioned their appeal not merely as filling a vacancy but as seizing an opportunity for stable and competent governance. They presented Dr. Eseduwo as a unifying figure whose credibility could transcend political divides and whose humility commands widespread respect.
The group called on all stakeholders—including political leaders, traditional rulers, elders, women, and youth—to rally behind Dr. Eseduwo. They framed the appointment as a move for stability, equity, excellence, and the collective interest of Bayelsa State.
"Let us seize an opportunity to choose a Deputy Governor who embodies the best of Bayelsa’s past, the diligence of its present and the promise of its future," the statement concluded, extending birthday felicitations to Dr. Eseduwo and hoping his legacy of service would enter its most consequential chapter.
