Kaduna State Celebrates Major Infrastructure Milestone with New 35km Road
Kaduna State has achieved a significant infrastructure breakthrough as Governor Uba Sani officially commissioned the longest road constructed in the state over the past two decades. This landmark project, unveiled on Monday, spans 35 kilometers and links the local government areas of Igabi, Kajuru, and Chikun, directly benefiting more than 76 farming communities.
Project Details and Strategic Importance
The newly completed asphalt road stretches from Gadan Gayan through Gwaraji to Kujama Junction, incorporating a robust 130-meter bridge over River Kaduna. This critical infrastructure component ensures year-round accessibility for rural settlements that were previously cut off during the rainy season, addressing long-standing isolation challenges.
Governor Sani emphasized that this project represents a cornerstone of his administration's people-focused development agenda, initially inaugurated in January 2024 with a firm commitment to delivering durable transportation solutions. The governor highlighted how this alternative corridor will substantially reduce pressure on Kaduna metropolis while simultaneously decreasing travel time and transportation costs for residents, traders, and daily commuters.
Transforming Rural Livelihoods and Economic Prospects
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Governor Sani outlined the multifaceted benefits of this infrastructure investment:
- Enhanced Emergency Response: Faster access for emergency services to remote communities
- Improved Educational Access: Schoolchildren can reach classrooms more easily and safely
- Better Healthcare Connectivity: Families gain improved access to medical facilities and social services
- Agricultural Market Integration: Direct connection between farms and urban consumption hubs
The governor specifically noted that agriculture remains the economic backbone of Kaduna State, and this road strategically links farms to markets, aggregation centers, and processing facilities across three local government areas. Early economic activity along the route is already visible, with new businesses and markets emerging as a direct result of improved connectivity.
Addressing Historical Neglect and Future Infrastructure Plans
This project particularly corrects years of infrastructure neglect in Kajuru Local Government Area, which had gone over a decade without a major road development initiative. Governor Sani revealed that this 35-kilometer road forms part of a broader infrastructure program encompassing 140 road projects totaling 1,335 kilometers across Kaduna State.
According to the governor's announcement:
- 66 of these road projects have already been completed
- Remaining projects are at advanced stages of construction
- The comprehensive network aims to transform mobility and economic prospects statewide
This infrastructure milestone represents a tangible step toward reshaping rural mobility, strengthening local economies, and fostering inclusive development across Kaduna State's agricultural heartland.
