The Kano State Government has taken a major step towards accelerating development with the approval of a substantial N6.9 billion for a series of critical projects. The decision was made by the State Executive Council on 5 January 2026, following detailed discussions on pressing governance issues affecting various sectors.
Major Infrastructure and Environmental Upgrades
A significant portion of the approved funds is earmarked for vital infrastructure. The Ministry of Works received the largest allocation to address road and drainage challenges. Key projects include the reconstruction of a failed multi-cell box culvert on the Kiru–Alhazawa–Bellon Koki Road for N896 million and the construction of the Yandodo–Mai-Allo Road in Nassarawa LGA at a cost of N2.6 billion.
Furthermore, N1.2 billion was approved for a major 10-cell reinforced concrete box culvert and other structures along the Karari–Kwaimawa–Santar Komau–Badau–Dutsen Karya–Gima Road. To tackle environmental issues, the Council approved N358.4 million for the construction of stormwater drainage and culverts at Tudun Wuzirci in Kano Municipal.
Empowering Youth and Improving Public Services
Demonstrating a strong commitment to youth development, the government approved N431.6 million for the graduation ceremony and provision of empowerment kits for beneficiaries of the state's 26 Entrepreneurship Institutes. This initiative is spearheaded by the Steering Committee on the institutes.
In the water sector, N85.5 million was allocated for extending water pipelines within Greater Kano, specifically in Gwale Local Government Area, to improve access to potable water. The education sector also received a boost with N285.1 million approved for constructing storey blocks of four classrooms with offices across all 44 Local Government Areas.
Governance, Transparency, and Policy Reforms
To strengthen accountability, the Council approved N157.6 million for an anti-corruption workshop for all State Directors (Batch 3), to be coordinated by the Office of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG). On land matters, N859.2 million was approved for compensating owners of structures affected by a road project in Tudun Wada LGA.
On policy, the Executive Council approved the transmission of several bills to the Kano State House of Assembly. These include the Kano State Local Governments Administration Bill 2025, the Economic Planning and Development Council Bill 2025, the Education Bill 2025, and a bill to rename the Audu Bako College of Agriculture, Science and Technology in Dambatta.
The Council also gave its nod for the implementation of the revised Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Policy and Manual for Kano State, a move aimed at attracting more private sector investment.
