Ogun State Renames Major Highway After President Bola Ahmed Tinubu
The Ogun State Government has officially renamed the Sagamu–Iperu–Sapade Expressway after Nigeria's President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in a significant move to honor his contributions to national development and acknowledge his deep connections to the state. This decision was formally approved by the Ogun State Executive Council during its latest meeting, where several resolutions were announced to strengthen governance and infrastructure.
Honoring Presidential Legacy and State Roots
Governor Dapo Abiodun emphasized that the renaming of the highway to the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Expressway is intended to celebrate the president's enduring legacy and recognize his pivotal role in Nigeria's political and economic advancement. The road serves as a crucial corridor linking the communities of Sagamu, Iperu, and Sapade, facilitating commuter traffic and business activities across major towns in Ogun State.
The renaming holds particular significance as President Tinubu hails from the Iperu area of Ogun State, making this gesture a tribute to his origins and the communities that have shaped his journey. The expressway is not only a vital transport route but also a symbol of the state's commercial and social vitality, connecting economic hubs that drive local growth.
Infrastructure and Governance Initiatives Approved
In addition to the highway renaming, the Ogun State Executive Council approved a series of initiatives aimed at enhancing infrastructure and governance. One key approval involves the procurement of 50 electricity transformers under the state's "Light Up Ogun Project," which is expected to improve power supply across communities and support small businesses reliant on stable electricity.
The council also sanctioned the purchase of official vehicles to bolster government operations, including 20 Suzuki Grand Vitara SUVs and 12 Toyota Fortuner SUVs. These vehicles will be allocated to government officials for administrative duties across various ministries and agencies, ensuring efficient service delivery.
Additional Decisions and Recognitions
Further resolutions from the meeting include the renaming of Aviation Village in Iperu after the late traditional ruler Oba Adeleke Idowu Basibo, in recognition of his contributions to community development. The state government also took steps to formalize traditional leadership structures, such as declaring the Olu of Odeda stool and recognizing additional traditional rulers in various communities.
According to the state government, these decisions are part of ongoing efforts to promote infrastructure development, strengthen governance frameworks, and honor individuals who have significantly contributed to the growth of Ogun State. The Sagamu–Iperu–Sapade corridor, now known as the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Expressway, plays a strategic role in linking economic hubs, making it a symbolic route associated with the president's enduring impact on the region.
