Governor Zulum to Present N400bn+ 2026 Budget to Borno Assembly Monday
Zulum Presents 2026 Borno Budget to State Assembly

Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, is set to present the proposed budget for the 2026 fiscal year to the Borno State House of Assembly on Monday.

Constitutional Duty and Key Announcements

The presentation, a constitutional requirement under the 1999 Nigerian Constitution (as amended), will see Governor Zulum outline the monetary and fiscal roadmap for his administration in the coming year. The Commissioner of Information and Internal Security, Professor Usman Tar, confirmed the event in a statement released from Maiduguri on Sunday.

Professor Tar emphasized that the occasion is more than a formality; it is a platform for the governor to make significant policy pronouncements expected to have a major impact on the lives of Borno State residents.

Broad Stakeholder Participation Encouraged

The Commissioner called for wide participation in the important state event. He stated that a diverse group of stakeholders, including top government officials, party leaders and supporters, members of the Organised Private Sector (OPS), Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), and the general public are expected to be present at the Assembly complex.

"Let us all turn out en masse to support the 2026 budget presentation by our governor," Professor Tar urged in his statement, highlighting the collective importance of the fiscal plan.

Building on a N584.8 Billion Foundation

The upcoming 2026 budget proposal follows the current year's budget, which was signed into law by Governor Zulum in January 2025. The 2025 budget stands at a substantial N584.8 billion, with the social sectors receiving the largest allocation of over N400 billion.

Within this social sector envelope, the Zulum administration has given the highest priority to education and healthcare delivery. Key projects under the 2025 budget include the construction and equipping of 104 mega secondary schools, complete with teachers' quarters in locations such as Mafa and the Maiduguri metropolis.

During the presentation of the 2025 budget to the 28-member legislature, Governor Zulum stressed the critical role of health and education in driving the state's economic growth and development. He issued a stern warning to all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), directing them to strictly adhere to their budgetary provisions. Failure to comply, he cautioned, could result in the non-release of funds for their respective projects and programs across the state.

All eyes will now be on the Assembly complex as Governor Zulum unveils his administration's financial blueprint for the year 2026.
