Afenifere Calls on Federal Government to Strengthen Internal Security and Support Agencies

The pan-Yoruba socio-cultural organisation, Afenifere, has issued a strong appeal to the Federal Government to enhance the morale and equipment of the military and other security agencies. This call comes in response to the escalating insecurity across Nigeria, with particular concern over the increasing terror acts now affecting the South-West region.

Concerns Over Genocidal Agenda and Internal Collaborators

Afenifere expressed deep concern that the current insecurity situation in the country may be taking on a genocidal agenda. The organisation commiserated with victims of terrorism in Yorubaland and other parts of Nigeria, highlighting the urgent need for action. Additionally, Afenifere urged security agencies to conduct thorough internal investigations to identify and address any collaborators suspected of aiding bandits and terrorists, emphasizing the importance of looking inward for solutions.

Communique from Caucus Meeting in Akure

These statements were made in a communique released after Afenifere's caucus meeting, held at the Akure country home of its leader, Reuben Fasoranti. The meeting saw attendance from members across all six Yoruba states, as well as Kwara and Kogi states. Chaired by former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) and Olu of Ilu-Abo, Oba Olu Falae, who heads Afenifere's executive committee, the gathering focused on deliberating security, economic, and socio-political issues impacting Yorubaland and Nigeria as a whole.

Key recommendations included strengthening the Amotekun security network, enhancing surveillance efforts, and expediting the establishment of state police forces. These actions are seen as critical steps toward improving local security and addressing the specific challenges faced in the region.
