The Zamfara State Police Command has successfully arrested a notorious bandit leader, Ali Bahago Danakulu, along with his alleged accomplices. The operation was conducted by the Violence Crime Response Unit (VCRU) of the command, based on credible intelligence gathered over time.
The criminal gang, which has been terrorizing residents of Kasuwan Daji and surrounding communities, is linked to multiple armed robberies and violent crimes. The police spokesperson, DSP Yazid Abubakar, confirmed the arrests and stated that the suspects had been on the command's watchlist for a long period.
Details of the Arrest
The arrested suspects include Ali Bahago Danakulu of Kasuwan Daji, Hassan Dan Kure, also of Kasuwan Daji, and Dahiru Lawali of Gidan Ango in Kaura Namoda local government area. During the operation, one bandit was neutralized, while three others were taken into custody.
Preliminary investigations reveal that the suspects belong to an armed criminal gang allegedly led by Ali Bahago, who has been linked to several criminal activities in the locality. The police recovered a significant cache of weapons and equipment from the bandits.
Recovered Items
Items recovered from the suspects include a pump-action gun, a single-barrel gun, a fabricated G3 rifle, two Dane guns, and four rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition. Additionally, nine pump-action cartridges, one handcuff chain, one locally made pistol, three Boxer motorcycles, and a locally made magazine were seized.
Continued Efforts Against Banditry
This arrest is part of ongoing efforts by security forces to combat banditry in northern Nigeria. In a similar operation, troops of the Nigerian Army's 6 Brigade arrested Fidelis Gayama, a notorious bandit leader along the Benue–Taraba axis. Gayama is associated with Aka Dogo, a wanted leader of an armed criminal group, and was declared wanted by the Beji Police Division in Ukum local government area.
In another major operation, troops of Operation Fansan Yanma killed several bandits, including the son of Ado Alero, in Zamfara State. The military spokesperson confirmed significant casualties among bandits during the operation, with at least 65 terrorists neutralized.
