The attack took place between 12:30 a.m. and 3:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 20, 2026. Turji stated, “We thank Allah for allowing us to witness this Saturday, June 20. After thanking Allah, in this country of ours, Nigeria, especially in some areas where we have been facing constant challenges.”
He further claimed that Allah had granted them victory over those who have been rustling their livestock and killing innocent brothers in local government areas including Isa, Zamfara, Sokoto State, Sabon Birni, and other surrounding areas. “Allah granted us victory over these people carrying out operations against us and taking away our livestock. We have succeeded in killing some of them, and we have successfully recovered our livestock from their hands,” Turji said.
Background of Bandit Activities
This incident comes amid ongoing security operations in northwestern Nigeria. In a separate development, the Kebbi State Police killed a suspected kidnapping gang leader during an operation in the Bagudo local government area. Operatives rescued an abducted resident and arrested another suspect linked to the kidnapping. Investigation revealed that the gang had eight members, and firearms were recovered at the scene.
Military Response
In a related operation, troops of Operation Fansan Yanma killed several bandits, including the son of notorious bandit leader Ado Alero, during a major operation in Zamfara State. A military spokesperson confirmed significant casualties among bandits during the operation on Saturday, April 4, 2026. The Nigerian Armed Forces Facebook page claimed at least 65 terrorists were neutralised in the major operation.
The video from Turji highlights the ongoing challenge of banditry in the region, where armed groups frequently attack military targets and civilians. The Nigerian military continues to conduct operations to dismantle these criminal networks.
