The operation, conducted under the auspices of Operation WUTAN DAJI, marks a critical step in ongoing efforts to eradicate criminal elements from the region.
Operation Details and Leadership
The army disclosed this development in an official statement released on Tuesday, April 14, 2026. The operation was spearheaded by troops from the 33 Artillery Brigade Garrison, working in conjunction with elements from the Brigade Headquarters and a specialized team from the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA). The mission targeted the Kumbodoro forest and Kumbodoro village areas within Bauchi State.
Brigadier-General S.S. Shehu, the Commander of the 33 Artillery Brigade, personally led the offensive as part of sustained initiatives to rid the area of criminal networks. The operation received crucial aerial support from the Air Component, enhancing its effectiveness and reach.
Significant Operational Success
According to the army statement, the troops achieved a major operational success, dealing a severe setback to bandit networks operating in the vicinity. Multiple bandit enclaves, including the notorious Azuge camps located within the Kumbodoro Forest axis, were successfully cleared during the intensive operation.
The offensive resulted in the neutralization of several bandits and the systematic dismantling of key operational bases, significantly degrading the criminals' capacity to threaten the lives and property of local citizens. A pivotal outcome of the mission was the rescue of eight kidnapped victims, who were safely extracted from the bandits' custody.
Recovery of Arms and Equipment
A thorough search of the cleared bandit enclaves yielded an extensive cache of arms and operational equipment. The recovered items include:
- Four skeletal rifles
- Four dane guns
- One FN rifle magazine
- One AK-47 magazine
- Various communication devices and operational items
Additional recovered materials comprise two pairs of boots, three helmets, one power bank, one StarTimes decoder, QJC meta links, one jackknife, six mobile handsets, arrows, radio chargers, OPAY ATM cards, photographs, an identity card, several pairs of security agency uniforms, and leg chains. This haul underscores the sophisticated and well-equipped nature of the criminal networks targeted.
Related Recovery of Livestock
In a related development, troops deployed at Duguri, acting on credible intelligence and in collaboration with local vigilantes, recovered 36 cows at Mushen Kura Village. The livestock are believed to have been abandoned by fleeing bandits due to the sustained military pressure exerted during the operations.
Efforts are currently underway to identify and return the animals to their rightful owners, demonstrating the army's commitment to restoring normalcy and supporting affected communities.
Army's Resolve and Future Operations
The Nigerian Army has reaffirmed its unwavering resolve to restore peace and stability across all theatres of operation.
