Gunmen have launched a brazen attack on the Immigration Office in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, making off with firearms belonging to officers who were on duty at the time. The assault took place at approximately 10pm on June 2, 2026, at the facility situated along the Ogbomoso–Ilorin new expressway.
Details of the Attack
According to sources, the armed individuals stormed the premises while the nearby Ayanyan Cattle Market was still bustling with activity. The officers on duty were reportedly overpowered and dispossessed of their service weapons. After the operation, the gunmen swiftly disappeared into the cover of the night, leaving behind a scene of chaos and confusion.
Police Response
The spokesperson for the Oyo State Police Command, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, stated that he had not yet received an official briefing on the incident. "I will provide updates as soon as the necessary information becomes available," the Police Public Relations Officer added, indicating that a full investigation is expected to follow.
The attack has raised concerns about security in the area, particularly given the proximity of the busy cattle market. Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward to assist in the investigation and recovery of the stolen firearms.
