Cambodia's General Department of Immigration, operating under the Ministry of Interior, has released a public notice setting a crucial deadline for foreign nationals. The directive specifically targets individuals from several African countries, including Ghana, Kenya, Cameroon, and Uganda, among others.
Waiver Expiration Date
According to the official notice, the waiver that had been granted to affected foreign nationals will officially expire on 31 May 2026. All individuals who have settled any applicable fines are required to depart Cambodia on or before that date.
Consequences for Non-Compliance
The directive warns that any foreign national who enters, remains in, or is found within Cambodia from 1 June 2026 without valid authorization will face enforcement actions. These measures include arrest, detention, and subsequent legal processing under the country's immigration laws. Penalties may also involve fines and possible custodial sentences, depending on the severity of the violation.
Authorities have stated that enforcement measures will be significantly strengthened after the deadline passes. Immigration officers will be empowered to conduct checks and take decisive action against overstayers in accordance with national regulations.
Official Statement
The notice strongly urges all affected individuals to comply strictly with the directive. It emphasizes that Cambodia will not tolerate any violations of its immigration laws once the waiver period expires. The statement was issued by the Director General of the General Department of Immigration, Lt. Gen. Som Sopheap, and has received approval from senior officials within the Ministry of Interior.
