The Oyo State Police Command has successfully dismantled a significant criminal operation involving the diversion of a large cement consignment, leading to the arrest of three individuals in Ibadan.
Intelligence Leads to Swift Arrests
Acting on a tip-off received on December 31, 2025, officers from the Sanyo Police Division launched an investigation. The intelligence indicated that a truck loaded with 900 bags of cement, with an estimated market value of eighteen million Naira (₦18,000,000), had been illegally diverted from its lawful delivery route.
A police team, led by the Divisional Police Officer, quickly moved to the Soka area of Ibadan based on this information. There, they intercepted a Dangote truck suspected of being used in the crime and apprehended the suspects.
Details of the Scheme and Recovery
Police investigations revealed that the cement was originally destined for delivery to a recipient in the Adewole area of Ilorin, Kwara State. However, the consignment was secretly rerouted and sold to buyers in Ibadan before authorities could intervene.
The police spokesperson, Deputy Superintendent of Police Ayanlade Olayinka, identified the arrested suspects as the truck driver, Usman Jubril (26), and the two alleged receivers, Durodola Ifeoluwa (29) and Nafisat Moruf (31). All suspects are residents of Ibadan.
"The consignment was unlawfully diverted from the intended receiver, describing the act as a clear case of criminal breach of trust and theft," Olayinka stated. The police successfully recovered the entire consignment of 900 bags and the truck, which are now secured as evidence.
Confessions and Commendations
Olayinka confirmed that the suspects have confessed to their roles in the crime and are currently in custody, cooperating with investigators. They are expected to be charged to court once the investigation is concluded.
The state Commissioner of Police, CP Femi Haruna, praised the operatives for their rapid response and effective use of intelligence. He linked the success directly to the intelligence-led policing strategies championed by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun.
CP Haruna reiterated the command's dedication to protecting property and ensuring offenders face justice. He also urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the police promptly, assuring residents of continued efforts to safeguard lives and property across Oyo State.
The police have stated that investigations into the cement diversion case are still ongoing.
