Abandoned Newborn Rescued in Nasarawa's Wamba

In a heart-wrenching incident that has stirred emotions in Nasarawa State, a newborn baby boy was rescued after being abandoned by his mother. The event unfolded in the Small London area of Wamba Local Government Area, where alert residents discovered the infant and swiftly intervened.

Swift Community Response Saves Infant

The Adon Garin Wamba, Mohammed Zaharadeen, officially confirmed the rescue operation in a statement released on the morning of Sunday, November 9, 2025. According to the details provided, the abandoned newborn was found alive and was immediately handed over to the appropriate authorities. This prompt action ensured the baby received urgent medical evaluation and essential care.

Mother Identified, Custody Denied

In a significant update to the case, Zaharadeen revealed that the mother of the child has been successfully identified. The woman hails from Bambu, a village within the Wamba community. However, in a decisive move reflecting the seriousness of the situation, the traditional ruler, His Royal Highness Alhaji Lawal Musa Nagogo, has directed that the baby should not be released into the mother's custody due to her act of neglect.

Supervised Care Arrangement

A unique care arrangement has been established for the welfare of the infant. While the mother will not have custody, she has been permitted to visit the Oriye Rindre palace in Wamba solely for the purpose of breastfeeding the baby. This feeding will be conducted under strict supervision, after which the mother must return to her residence. The baby remains under the direct care and protection of his royal highness and community authorities, where he continues to receive necessary medical attention and support.

The statement from the palace expressed profound appreciation for the swift and compassionate response from community members, hospital staff, and all concerned individuals. It also served as a powerful reminder of the collective responsibility to protect the lives and welfare of innocent children.
