The Abia State Police Command has apprehended several officers following a viral video that captured the harassment of a commuter in Uturu on Saturday, May 9. The incident has sparked public outrage and prompted swift disciplinary action.
Police Confirm Arrests After Viral Incident
In a statement released by the command's spokesperson, DSP Maureen Chinaka, the officers were filmed intimidating a traveler for carrying three mobile phones and failing to provide proof of ownership for each device. The video quickly spread on social media, drawing widespread condemnation.
Following a prompt investigation, authorities contacted the complainant and successfully identified the personnel involved. All implicated officers have been traced and taken into custody. The command assured the public that the matter is being handled with the seriousness it deserves.
SCID to Investigate, Public to Be Updated
State Commissioner of Police, CP Danladi Isa, has directed the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to take over the case for formal investigation and administrative action. The command promised to update the public on the final disciplinary outcome once the process is complete.
CP Isa reaffirmed that the command remains committed to professionalism and human rights. He further warned that any form of impunity or misconduct would be met with severe sanctions, in line with the Inspector General of Police’s mandate to maintain a disciplined and citizen-friendly force.
