Arrest in Bulkachuwa
The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 50-year-old man, Muhammadu Audu, for allegedly raping a 9-year-old girl in Katagum Local Government Area. The suspect reportedly threatened to kill the victim with a knife if she disclosed the incident to her parents.
According to the command's spokesperson, SP Nafiu Habib, the victim's father reported the crime on June 15, 2026. He stated that on June 14, while the girl was hawking soya bean cakes, the suspect lured her to an uncompleted building under the pretext of making a purchase and then had unlawful sexual intercourse with her.
Confession and Medical Examination
Operatives from the Bulkachuwa Division apprehended the suspect. During interrogation, Audu confessed to committing the crime multiple times and admitted to threatening the victim with a knife to ensure her silence. The victim sustained injuries to her private parts and was taken to the Primary Health Care Centre in Bulkachuwa for medical examination and treatment.
SP Habib confirmed that the suspect is currently in custody as investigations continue.
Police Condemnation and Assurance
The Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has ordered a thorough investigation into the matter. He strongly condemned the act and reiterated the command's zero tolerance for sexual violence and crimes against children. “The Command further assures the public that the case will be diligently prosecuted, and it remains committed to protecting women and children across the State,” the statement read.
