Operatives of the Bauchi State Police Command have successfully recovered a stolen Toyota Hilux belonging to the Bauchi Emirate Council and arrested a suspect in connection with the crime.

Swift Police Action Leads to Recovery

The incident was reported on Monday, 6th January 2026, by a member of the Emirate Council, Buhari Musa Umar. He alerted a police patrol team stationed at the Jos Road roundabout within the Bauchi metropolis that an unknown person had stolen the official vehicle.

According to the police account, the driver had parked the Hilux at a fuel station. He was en route to Ganjuwa Local Government Area to deliver messages from the Emir when he stepped away briefly. Upon his return, he discovered the vehicle was gone.

Suspect Apprehended After Chase

The police patrol team immediately sprang into action. They pursued the suspect and managed to intercept the stolen vehicle around the Bayan Gari area of the city. The police not only recovered the Hilux but also arrested the individual behind the wheel.

The State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, confirmed in a statement on Tuesday, 7th January, that the suspect has confessed to the crime. "Investigation is still on, after which the suspect will be profiled and charged to court upon its completion," Habib stated.

New Officers Deployed for Probation in Bauchi

In a related development, the Bauchi State Police Commissioner, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has directed the posting of newly passed-out officers within the state capital. These officers, who are members of the 7th Regular Course from the Nigeria Police Academy in Wudil, Kano, will serve their one-year probationary period in Bauchi metropolis.

CP Aliyu gave the directive on Monday while receiving the officers at the command headquarters. He emphasized discipline and dedication to service, noting that the probation is designed to give them hands-on experience in core policing duties.

"The one year probation would help the officers to enhance their operational understanding of law enforcement," explained SP Nafiu Habib. Upon successful completion, the officers will be confirmed as substantive Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASP).

Focus on Community Policing

The Commissioner further disclosed that posting the officers to their states of origin aligns with the vision of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun. This strategy is aimed at actualising the community-based policing initiative to more effectively tackle contemporary security challenges across Nigeria.

CP Aliyu urged the new officers to remain focused on practical policing activities that will prepare them for their future roles as seasoned law enforcement agents.
