In a decisive crackdown on criminal activities, the Borno State Police Command has apprehended eight individuals and confiscated a significant quantity of prohibited substances. The operation, which underscores the force's commitment to public safety, took place in the state capital.

Operation Based on Credible Intelligence

According to a statement released by the Command's spokesperson, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Nahum Daso, the arrests were made on Thursday, January 16, 2026, at around 4:00 pm. Acting on verified intelligence, operatives from the command's crack squad conducted a targeted raid along the Baga Road area in Maiduguri, which falls partly within the Jere Local Government Area.

The eight suspects, whose ages range from 18 to 25 years, were taken into custody during the operation. ASP Daso confirmed that the individuals were found in possession of a substantial stash of hard drugs and other illicit materials at the time of their arrest.

Recovered Exhibits and Ongoing Investigation

The police successfully recovered a large cache of narcotics from the scene. The seized items include:

  • 700 wraps of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp (cannabis).
  • 10 packs of tramadol tablets.
  • 2,500 tablets

All the recovered exhibits and the suspects are currently in police custody. Investigations are actively ongoing to uncover more details about the drug network and any associated crimes. The police spokesperson assured the public that upon conclusion of the investigations, the suspects will be charged to court for prosecution.

Police Leadership Issues Stern Warning

The Commissioner of Police for Borno State, CP Naziru Abdulmajid, has reiterated his unwavering determination to cleanse the state of criminal elements. He issued a strong warning to anyone involved in drug peddling and related offences to immediately desist from such illegal activities.

CP Abdulmajid emphasized that the command will not relent in its efforts to ensure the safety and security of all residents. He commended the operatives for their successful operation and urged them to sustain the momentum.

In the same vein, ASP Nahum Daso called on members of the public to continue their vital support for the police. He encouraged citizens to provide timely and credible information that can lead to prompt action against criminals, reinforcing the partnership essential for effective community policing.
