The Delta State Police Command has apprehended four suspected armed robbers and recovered two firearms following coordinated stop-and-search and patrol activities in Asaba.
First Arrest: Suspect Found with Beretta Pistol
In a statement, the command’s spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed that on April 23, 2026, at about 4:25 p.m., operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) were conducting routine stop-and-search duties along Ugbolu/Asaba Road when they intercepted one Chinoso Igwemma, a 28-year-old male. According to Edafe, the suspect’s suspicious behavior prompted a search, which led to the recovery of one fabricated Beretta pistol. “The timely intervention of the operatives is assessed to have averted a potential violent crime. The suspect is currently in custody and under investigation,” Edafe said.
Second Operation: Three Suspects Arrested with Loaded Pistol
In a separate development, operatives of the Crack Squad, while on routine patrol in the Bonsaac Area of Asaba, intercepted a tricycle carrying three male occupants. The suspects were identified as Umuadi Benjamin Chinecherem (30), Nwabueze Kelvin (28), and Okonkwo Celestine (30). All three were subjected to a thorough search, resulting in the recovery of one locally made cut-to-size pistol loaded with one live cartridge. The police spokesperson linked them to criminal activities, including dispossessing innocent citizens of their belongings. He stated that efforts are ongoing to uncover their network and apprehend other accomplices.

“The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, psc, acipm, mnips, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to intelligence-led strategies and proactive policing aimed at preventing crime and dismantling criminal networks in the state,” Edafe said.
