The Delta State Police Command has apprehended five suspects and seized a locally made revolver pistol along with ten bags of substances believed to be Indian hemp. This was disclosed by the command's spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, in a statement on Sunday, highlighting significant progress in the fight against crime in the state.
First Operation: Arrest of Three Suspects
On 30 May 2026, at approximately 5:30 am, the surveillance team attached to the Asaba Area Command, while conducting a routine patrol behind NTA Asaba, intercepted three individuals identified as Musa Sule (22), Moses Sunday (26), and Osama Ibrahim (25). According to Edafe, acting on reasonable suspicion, the operatives searched the suspects and recovered a locally made revolver pistol along with other dangerous weapons. The trio was immediately arrested, and the exhibits were taken into custody as investigations continue.
Second Operation: Drug Bust on Expressway
In a separate operation on 29 May 2026, at about 4 am, operatives of the State Anti-Kidnapping Unit (SAKU), during an intelligence-led stop-and-search operation along the Onitsha-Benin Expressway, intercepted an ash-colored Mercedes-Benz station wagon with registration number BEN 982 TE. The vehicle was occupied by Hilary Aloma and Oki Joseph, also known as “Big Joe.” A thorough search of the vehicle led to the recovery of ten bags containing substances suspected to be Indian hemp, which had been concealed inside the vehicle. Preliminary investigations revealed that the illicit drugs were being transported from Edo State to Awka, Anambra State, before the interception.
Ongoing Investigations
Edafe confirmed that the suspects have been taken into custody and the exhibits secured as evidence. Investigations are ongoing to uncover the full extent of the criminal network and identify other accomplices involved in the illegal trade.
Commendation from Police Commissioner
The Commissioner of Police for Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, commended the operatives for their vigilance, professionalism, and dedication to duty. He issued a stern warning to individuals involved in the unlawful possession of firearms, drug trafficking, cult-related activities, and other forms of criminality to desist or face the full force of the law.
