Activist Harrison Gwamnishu has released a disturbing video showing police officers in Delta State executing a suspected criminal in broad daylight on a public road. The footage, which has gone viral, captures the suspect with his hands tied behind his back, seated on the ground, crying and pleading his innocence.
Suspect's Plea Ignored
In the video, the weeping suspect can be heard denying any knowledge of the crime he is accused of committing. He claims he was deceived by a friend and offers to lead the officers to the friend's house in Sapele. "It is my friend that deceived me. He is in Sapele. I would carry you to his house, I do not know anything. I will take you to where he is. Officer please!" he pleaded. Despite his pleas, an officer shoots him at close range, killing him instantly.
Activist Calls for Accountability
Reacting to the video, Gwamnishu expressed shock and outrage. "Like serious! In Delta state? Has it gotten to this level?" he wrote. He insists the video is authentic and challenges the police to deny it. He further alleges that the officers killed the suspect as part of a cover-up. The patrol vehicle seen in the video is from the Effurun command in Uvwie.
The incident has sparked widespread condemnation and renewed calls for police reform in Nigeria. The video continues to circulate on social media, drawing attention to the issue of extrajudicial killings by security forces.
