The Delta State Police Command has confirmed the tragic death of a 15-year-old boy, Gift Oberhirhi, following an alleged incident of drug ingestion in the Orogun community. According to police reports, the teenager consumed 15 tablets of Dexamethasone, a controlled medication, which was reportedly provided by his friend, Destiny Akpofure, also aged 15.

Police Response and Investigation

Superintendent of Police (SP) Bright Edafe, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), stated that the boy fell critically ill shortly after taking the tablets and died while being rushed to the hospital for emergency medical attention. The police responded promptly by evacuating the body to the General Hospital Mortuary in Orogun for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.

Edafe confirmed that the suspect, Destiny Akpofure, is currently in police custody, and authorities have promised a thorough investigation into the matter. He emphasized the Command's commitment to addressing the escalating drug menace in the state through intelligence-led operations targeting drug dens, black-spots, and criminal hideouts.
