Don Pedro Obaseki Extends Forgiveness to Attackers from 2025 Assault Incident
In a gesture of reconciliation, Don Pedro Obaseki announced yesterday that he has pardoned the individuals responsible for assaulting him on Sunday, December 28, 2025. The incident occurred at Uwa Primary School in Benin, where Obaseki was attacked by a group of thugs led by Osaze Adun, also known as Kapuepue, while he was playing football.
Details of the Traumatic Assault
The attack was severe, with Obaseki being stripped naked and forcibly dragged to the Palace of the Oba of Benin. He disclosed this harrowing experience when he received his assailants at his residence in Benin, where they came to plead for forgiveness. Obaseki admitted that the event left him highly traumatised, causing significant pain to both him and his children.
Reasons Behind the Decision to Forgive
Despite the trauma, Obaseki explained that after listening to appeals from various quarters, he felt compelled to let the matter slide. He referenced a Benin proverb, stating, "only the leopard’s cub can lick the leopard’s underside," to illustrate the importance of familial and communal bonds in resolving conflicts.
As an Edo man and a member of the Obaseki clan, he emphasized that this act of forgiveness serves as an affirmation that he and his family are not enemies of the Edo people. He expressed gratitude to close friends and family for their support during this challenging period, noting that they have been instrumental in helping him heal.
Family Connections and Moving Forward
Interestingly, Obaseki revealed a familial link to one of his attackers, Kapuepue, whose mother is also from his family. This connection played a role in the decision to forgive, as discussions within the Obaseki clan highlighted the need to move forward and foster unity. Obaseki concluded by stating that this validation is sufficient for him, and he plans to address the matter further in a larger forum to thank those who stood by him.
