Driver Arrested Over Anthony Joshua Accident

The Ogun State Police Command has officially confirmed the arrest of the driver of a Lexus Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) linked to the tragic road accident involving former world heavyweight boxing champion, Anthony Joshua.

Police Confirm Driver in Custody

The confirmation was provided by the command's spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, via a post on his official X (formerly Twitter) page on Thursday, January 1, 2026. Babaseyi stated that the driver is currently in police custody as investigations into the fatal crash continue.

"The driver of the Lexus SUV is currently in custody in connection with the Anthony Joshua accident case. Investigations are ongoing," the police spokesperson tweeted.

Details of the Fatal Crash

The accident occurred along the busy Lagos-Ibadan expressway in the Makun area of Ogun State. Anthony Joshua was commuting in the Lexus SUV with two of his friends when the vehicle collided with a stationary truck parked along the road.

The impact of the collision was severe, resulting in the immediate death of Joshua's two friends, identified as Latif and Sina. Anthony Joshua himself sustained injuries in the crash but survived the incident.

A Holiday Visit Ends in Tragedy

Reports indicate that the two deceased friends had flown into Nigeria specifically to spend the Christmas holiday with the celebrated boxer. Their festive visit was tragically cut short by the fatal accident on the expressway.

The Ogun State Police Command has emphasized that its investigation into the precise circumstances leading to the collision is still active. Authorities are working to determine factors such as speed, road conditions, and the reason the truck was stationary at the time of the accident.

This development marks a significant step in the case, as the police move from initial response to a detailed investigative phase with a key suspect now in detention. The public and fans of the boxer await further updates from the police as more details emerge.
