The incident occurred after the suspect was apprehended for allegedly stealing a gas cylinder, an act reportedly driven by his need to fund his drug addiction.
Details of the Theft and Arrest
According to local reports, Ojo Kayaman was nabbed by residents following the theft of the gas cylinder. A community member, Gadafi Idreez, provided insights into the situation, explaining that the suspect resorted to stealing to sustain his drug habit. Upon his arrest, in a symbolic and mocking gesture, he was crowned with the iron grill of the stolen gas cylinder, labeling him the 'king of thieves'.
Community Reaction and Broader Implications
Gadafi Idreez further commented on social media, stating, "Kuroko again! He is the king of thieves captured at Karaworo. His name is Ojo, popularly known as Ojo Kayaman, the son of the renowned Kaya-Man Kuroko." He added that Ojo is an apprentice of the 'Risky school of Igbo (Marijuana) and hard drugs,' emphasizing the link between drug use and criminal behavior.
The resident expressed frustration over the community's response, noting, "Seriously, this type of youth is roaming around Kuroko, but the leaders of the community will do nothing about it because he is their own. One of the issues that is retrogressing Kuroko for now." This highlights ongoing concerns about drug-related crimes and perceived inaction by local authorities.
Moral Lesson and Public Awareness
In a cautionary note, Gadafi shared a moral lesson: "Moral lesson: when dey say drug and stealing na step brother una no dey believe. Lesson wey like drugs and no get money, stealing no far from him." This underscores the dangerous connection between addiction and theft, urging the public to recognize and address such issues proactively.
