Edo Security Network Arrests Two with Illicit Drugs

The Edo State Security Network (ESSN) has apprehended two individuals in possession of substantial amounts of illicit drugs at separate locations in Benin City. This announcement was made in a statement released on Sunday by the Commissioner for Public Security and Safety, Festus Ebea.

Suspects and Seized Drugs

Ebea identified the suspects as Efosa Uyi and Stella Thompson. He emphasized the state government's unwavering commitment to eradicating illicit drugs from Edo State. The confiscated drugs include Indian hemp, crystal methamphetamine (Ice), Colorado (Colos), Canadian Loud, and Scottish Loud, all seized in large quantities.

The commissioner issued a stern warning to drug addicts and dealers, stating that Edo State is not a safe haven for their illicit activities. He stressed that the suspects would be transferred to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further legal proceedings, ensuring that justice is meticulously served.

Government's Stance on Drug Trafficking

“We have arrested two suspects at different points in Benin, and primarily will hand them over to NDLEA. We are working very hard to assist the drug agency in getting rid of those engaged in drug activities in the state,” Ebea stated. “We are not relenting in combing the State and getting drug addicts, and those trading in illicit drugs off the State.”

He detailed that the arrests occurred on Friday, 29th May 2026, and reiterated the warning to those involved in drug sales and distribution to cease operations, as the state will not tolerate their presence.

Call to Youth

Ebea urged young people to abstain from drug use, highlighting its detrimental effects on individuals and society. “We equally call on the youths to stay off drugs as it has no positive impact on their lives but rather end up being useless to the society,” he said. “To save our youth from these illicit drugs, we have to arrest those selling and distributing these drugs in society. Hence, these ones have been arrested and brought before the media.”

The commissioner encouraged journalists to follow the story to ensure justice is served, serving as a deterrent to others. “Our youths should stay off drugs as it has no benefits to any users, you can’t think of. It will make you end up useless and degraded in society, encourage the youths to stay off drugs, and be safe,” he added, noting that many criminal arrests are linked to drug abuse, which fuels nefarious activities in the state.
