Jigawa Police Arrest Ex-Husband for Alleged Murder of Former Wife

The Jigawa State Police Command has made a significant arrest in a chilling murder case, apprehending one Awwalu Aliyu for the alleged killing of his ex-wife in Taura Local Government Area of the state.

State Commissioner of Police, CP Haruna A Yahaya, disclosed this development during a press briefing held on Monday, April 20, 2026, providing detailed insights into the investigation that led to the arrest.

Discovery of the Victim's Body

The lifeless body of the victim was discovered at the outskirts of Gurjawa village on April 3, 2026. According to CP Yahaya, information was received at Gujungu Division at approximately 0730 hours that a deceased body had been sighted in the area.

"Upon receiving the report, our Patrol Team immediately swung into action and proceeded to the scene," the Commissioner stated. "On reaching the scene, they discovered the body and evacuated it to the hospital where it was certified dead by a medical practitioner."

Investigation Unfolds Suspicious Circumstances

Preliminary investigation revealed that the deceased was last seen in the company of her former husband, Awwalu Aliyu, who resides in Yalleman Village. This crucial detail prompted further scrutiny by law enforcement officials.

The investigation took a significant turn when it was uncovered that one Umar Suleiman, an okada rider, had earlier lent his motorcycle to Awwalu Aliyu. Blood stains were observed on the motorcycle, raising immediate suspicion of possible complicity in the commission of the offence, leading to Suleiman's arrest.

Deceptive Transportation Scheme Revealed

Sustained investigation revealed that the prime suspect, Awwalu Aliyu, along with an associate named Hudu Alhassan, had taken the victim under the pretense of conveying her to her family residence at Gurjawa Village.

"It was further established that the suspect subsequently dropped his associate midway and proceeded alone with the victim, after which the offence was allegedly committed," CP Yahaya explained during the briefing.

Legal Proceedings Initiated

Both suspects involved in this tragic case have been charged to court as the legal process begins. The Jigawa State Police Command emphasized their commitment to thorough investigation and prosecution of all individuals involved in criminal activities within the state.

This case highlights the ongoing efforts by Nigerian law enforcement to address violent crimes and ensure justice for victims, particularly in domestic violence situations that can have devastating consequences.
