Explosion Rocks Mando Motor Park in Kaduna, Destroying Three CNG Buses
An early morning explosion struck Mando Motor Park in Kaduna on Sunday, resulting in the destruction of three luxury buses powered by compressed natural gas (CNG). The incident, which occurred around 3:00 a.m., cast a shadow over the Easter period, as the vehicles, belonging to Silver Transport Company, were parked and prepared for interstate trips.
Details of the Incident
A manager from a logistics firm operating within the park, who spoke anonymously, confirmed that the explosion happened while the buses were stationary. He noted that the affected vehicles were newly acquired, but expressed relief that no casualties were recorded. The source emphasized that the buses were powered by CNG, raising immediate concerns about the safety of this technology.
Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force and other relevant agencies have since arrived at the scene to assess the situation and determine the cause of the explosion. As of the time of reporting, authorities from the motor park and the Kaduna State Government had not yet issued an official statement on the incident.
Investigation and Safety Concerns
The anonymous manager added, "They are carrying out investigations to ascertain what caused the incident. These vehicles are using CNG. We are not matured enough to use it." He further explained, "They were parked to board passengers this morning. We are thankful that no one was inside the vehicles when the explosion occurred."
This event highlights growing apprehensions regarding the adoption of CNG technology in public transportation, particularly in light of such incidents. The investigation is ongoing, with authorities working to provide clarity and ensure public safety in the aftermath of the explosion.
