The Kano State Police Command has made a major breakthrough in a horrific case, arresting three principal suspects for the brutal murder of a housewife and her six young children. The shocking crime has sent waves of grief and anger through the Dorayi Chiranchi community.
Details of the Gruesome Attack
The incident occurred in the Dorayi Chiranchi Quarters of Kano on Saturday, January 17, 2026. The victims were identified as 35-year-old Fatima Abubakar and her six children: Maimuna (17), Aisha (16), Bashir (13), Abubakar (10), Faruk (7), and Abdulsalam (just 1.5 years old). According to police reports, hoodlums armed with dangerous weapons broke into their residence and attacked the family.
Sting Operation and Arrests
In a statement released on Sunday by the command's spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the police detailed a successful sting operation. Acting on directives from the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, and under the supervision of the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, crack operatives swung into action.
The operation, which lasted for seven hours between 10 pm on January 17 and 4 am on January 18, 2026, led to the capture of the three suspects. They were named as:
- Umar Auwalu, 23, from Sabuwar Gandu Quarters (the gang leader and a nephew to the deceased housewife).
- Isyaku Yakubu (alias 'Chebe'), 40, from Sagagi Quarters.
- Yakubu Abdulaziz (alias 'Wawo'), 21, from Sabon Gida Sharada Quarters.
Confession and Link to Other Crimes
During interrogation, the ringleader, Umar Auwalu, confessed to the crime. In a chilling revelation, he also admitted that his syndicate was responsible for a series of other gruesome killings in Kano. He specifically mentioned the murder and burning of two housewives in the Tudun Yola Quarters.
Police recovered crucial evidence from the suspects, which included:
- Four bloodstained clothes.
- The deceased's two mobile phones.
- A sum of money stolen from the scene.
- A cutlass, a club (Gora), and other dangerous weapons.
