The children of the late Major General Rabe Abubakar (rtd) have refuted claims by the Katsina State Government that their father died from complications of diabetes and hypertension. They insist he died from a snake bite while held captive by kidnappers.
Family Speaks Out
One of the late general's sons, Isyaka Rabe, stated in an interview with Deutsche Welle that his father had no history of diabetes or high blood pressure. He said the government's account was inaccurate.
The general and his wife were abducted on May 30, 2026, along the Marabar Musawa–Kafinsoli Road in Matazu Local Government Area of Katsina State. He later died in captivity.
Cause of Death Disputed
Isyaka noted that based on the last video released by the kidnappers, some believe a snake bite was the cause of death. However, he said only God knows the actual cause.
He described his father as a deeply religious, peace-loving man who lived a simple life, and added that the late general died a hero.
Mother Still in Captivity
Isyaka also disclosed that his mother, who was abducted alongside his father, remains in captivity. He dismissed social media reports claiming she had been released, saying, 'Take it from me, our mother is still in captivity. She has not been released.'
When asked about the recovery of his father's remains, Isyaka said he had no information and directed such questions to the government.
Daughter's Statement
One of the late general's daughters, Adda Abubakar, earlier posted on her X handle, @Addahaleem, that her father did not suffer from diabetes. She insisted that a snake bite was the actual cause of his death.
