Former Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has issued a strong condemnation following a violent attack on his cousin, Dr. Don Pedro Obaseki, in Benin City. The incident, which involved alleged abduction and beating by suspected thugs, has sparked calls for an urgent security probe.
Details of the Violent Incident in Benin
The attack reportedly took place on Monday, December 29, 2025. Don Pedro Obaseki, a former Managing Director of DAAR Communications and CEO of Hosamudia Farm, was allegedly assaulted at the Uwa Primary School field in Benin. According to sources, he had gone to the location to play football when he was set upon, beaten, and abducted by armed assailants.
Godwin Obaseki's Firm Condemnation and Demands
In a swift reaction, the immediate past governor, Godwin Obaseki, denounced the act as barbaric. In a formal statement, he expressed outrage at the violent attack, maiming, and abduction of his relative.
Obaseki called on security agencies to immediately launch a thorough and transparent investigation. He demanded that the perpetrators be identified and held fully accountable under the law.
He issued a stark warning about the broader implications, stating that a situation where thugs and non-state actors freely take the law into their own hands on behalf of powerful individuals would lead to a degeneration into anarchy.
Appeal for Broader Action Against Injustice
Going beyond a personal appeal, the former governor urged human rights organisations, civil society groups, and all well-meaning Nigerians to speak out firmly against what he termed a gross violation of human rights and an injustice.
This incident has raised serious concerns about security and the rule of law in Edo State, highlighting fears about political thuggery and the safety of citizens, including high-profile individuals.
