Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU) Ibogun Campus was thrown into chaos when over a dozen suspected armed robbers invaded student hostels in a late-night attack. The incident, which began around midnight and extended into the early hours of Saturday, left students scrambling for safety as gunfire erupted across the campus.
Attack Details
According to reports, a group of more than 12 gunmen stormed multiple hostels, shooting indiscriminately and stealing phones, laptops, and other valuables from students. The attackers operated for several minutes without immediate resistance, resulting in injuries to several students and widespread trauma among the victims.
An X user identified as Jinadu, Michael Mabayomije shared his account on social media, describing the horrifying experience. He noted that the attackers moved freely, looting property and leaving a trail of blood in one of the hostels. Residents of Ibogun described the night as chaotic and traumatizing, with students desperately seeking shelter as gunshots rang out continuously.
Police Response
The Ogun State Police Command confirmed the attack and stated that an investigation has been launched. The command's spokesperson, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Oluseyi Babaseyi, said the Divisional Police Officer of Ibogun Police Division and the Area Commander have been deployed to the scene. Their mission is to assess the situation, reassure students and residents, and enhance security measures to prevent future occurrences.
The university community remains on edge as authorities work to apprehend the perpetrators and restore calm. Students are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the police.
