The Speaker of the Gwagwalada Area Council Legislative Arm, Hon. Mohammed Ibrahim Ibwa, and his aide, Ibrahim Ibwa, have tragically lost their lives in a motor accident at Sheda village along the Abuja-Lokoja highway.
According to reports, the Speaker succumbed to his injuries in the early hours of Thursday, May 14, 2026, at the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital. He had been referred there after initially receiving treatment at Legend Hospital in Gwagwalada. His aide reportedly died on the spot at the accident scene.
An eyewitness recounted that the accident occurred around 3:10 p.m. on Wednesday and involved a head-on collision between a Mercedes-Benz car and a Sino truck at Sheda village. Three individuals were traveling in the Mercedes-Benz at the time of the crash. The third person is currently receiving medical attention for injuries sustained.
An official of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), who participated in the rescue operation and spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed the incident. He stated that one victim died at the scene, while two others, including the Speaker, were rushed to the hospital. The FRSC official added that the body of the deceased was deposited at Legend Hospital mortuary in Gwagwalada.
Further investigations revealed that the Speaker and his aides were returning to Gwagwalada from Kwali after attending a political meeting. Their vehicle collided head-on with a trailer coming from the opposite direction near Sheda village.
The remains of the late Speaker were later laid to rest according to Islamic rites in his hometown of Ibwa within Gwagwalada Area Council. Dignitaries present at the burial included the chairman-elect of Gwagwalada Area Council, Hon. Mohammed Kasim Ikwa; former council chairman, Alhaji Adamu Mustapha; former House of Representatives member, Isah Egah Dobi; and other prominent political figures.
