Troops of Operation Enduring Peace have apprehended a 21-year-old herder in connection with the alleged assault of a farmer in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State. The suspect, identified as Abdulmutala Yunusa, was handed over to troops at Sector 4, Sub-Sector 41, Gashish, at approximately 1:30 p.m. on May 29, 2026.
The arrest followed an intensive manhunt launched by troops after a farmer, Isah Ahmad, was reportedly assaulted at Hai Kurra Fall in Barkin Ladi LGA. The assault occurred after Ahmad resisted Yunusa's attempts to graze cattle on his farmland. The incident had escalated tensions in the area, prompting swift action by security agencies.
Yunusa's father, who had been arrested earlier in connection with the incident, was subsequently released after the main suspect surrendered. The Fulani leader of the community brought Yunusa to the troops, highlighting the collaborative efforts between security forces and local leaders to maintain peace.
The suspect is currently in custody pending further investigation and necessary legal action. Security agencies have stated that efforts are ongoing to sustain peace and prevent further tensions in the region. The arrest underscores the commitment of Operation Enduring Peace to addressing conflicts between herders and farmers in Plateau State.
