The Imo State Police Command has arrested one Chigaemezu Joseph Chukwudi for allegedly raping a 19-year-old girl. The suspect is also accused of cyberstalking and criminal intimidation.

Addressing journalists at the command headquarters in Owerri, the Commissioner of Police, Audu Garba Bosso, revealed that after the alleged rape, the suspect recorded a video of the victim and threatened to make it viral if she refused to comply with his further demands.
According to the CP, the suspect lured the victim to a hotel in Owerri under the pretense that he needed her to take his measurements and sew shirts for him.
Details of the Arrest
Detectives of the command, on May 14, 2026, at about 2:34 p.m., arrested Chigaemezu Joseph Chukwudi, a 22-year-old male from Nduawa Arondizuogu in Ideato North Local Government Area. The arrest took place at the Roundabout along Orji/Amakohia Road, Spibat Area, Owerri North LGA.
The CP stated that investigation revealed the suspect deceived the victim into accompanying him to Lekim Royal Hotel and Suites, New Owerri, under the guise of taking measurements and sewing shirts. There, he allegedly had non-consensual sexual intercourse with her, recorded the act on his phone, and used the video to threaten, intimidate, and coerce her into further sexual acts, threatening to circulate the video online if she refused.

The suspect is currently in custody while a comprehensive investigation is ongoing. He will be arraigned in court upon conclusion of investigations.
