The Imo State Police Command has paraded a 22-year-old man, Chigaemezu Joseph Chukwudi, for allegedly raping his 19-year-old neighbour in a hotel in Owerri. The suspect was arrested on May 14, 2026, along Orji/Amakohia Road in the Spibat area of Owerri North Local Government Area.
Details of the Incident
Commissioner of Police Audu Garba Bosso, addressing journalists at the command headquarters in Owerri, explained that the suspect deceived the victim by pretending to need her services as a seamstress. He lured her to Lekim Royal Hotel and Suites in New Owerri under the pretext of taking measurements for shirts for himself and his friends.
Once at the hotel, the suspect allegedly had non-consensual sexual intercourse with the victim. He recorded the act on his mobile phone and later used the video to threaten and intimidate her, demanding further sexual favors and threatening to make the video viral if she refused.
Police Investigation and Legal Action
CP Bosso stated that the suspect is currently in custody while a comprehensive investigation is underway. He assured the public that upon completion of the investigation, the suspect will be arraigned in court.
“Detectives arrested Chigaemezu Joseph Chukwudi for his alleged involvement in rape, cyberstalking, and criminal intimidation of a 19-year-old girl,” Bosso said. He reiterated the command’s commitment to maintaining peace and security in Imo State, emphasizing that all necessary efforts are being made to proactively address such threats and ensure the safety of law-abiding citizens.
