Operatives of the Imo State Police Command have apprehended three individuals in connection with the alleged murder of Chinedu Chibuzor Christogonus, a 21-year-old student at the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO). The student died under suspicious circumstances on May 30.
Preliminary Investigation Findings
According to preliminary police investigations, the deceased was a 100-level Cyber Security student and a member of the Man O' War organization at FUTO. He was reportedly subjected to severe assault by some members of the organization after being accused of stealing the sum of Thirteen Thousand Five Hundred Naira (N13,500).
Suspects in Custody
The command's spokesperson, DSP Henry Okoye, identified the suspects currently in police custody as Chukwuemeka Benedict (21), Kelechi Gospel Ikenna (24), and Obioma Anastasia (21). All three are 500-level students at FUTO.
Okoye stated that initial findings indicate the deceased was allegedly restrained and assaulted, resulting in critical injuries. He was subsequently rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Owerri, where medical personnel confirmed his death.
Police Response and Action
Upon receiving the report, the Commissioner of Police for Imo State Command, CP Audu Garba Bosso, immediately directed operatives to take swift action, leading to the prompt arrest of the suspects. Relevant evidence has been secured, and the corpse has been deposited in the morgue for preservation and autopsy.
Case Transferred for Thorough Investigation
To ensure a thorough, professional, and discreet investigation, the Commissioner of Police has ordered the transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Owerri for comprehensive investigation. He further directed that all persons connected to the incident be identified and investigated, with a view to ensuring that justice is served.
