Kaduna Police Vow to Prosecute Mob Suspects Over Woman's Death

The Kaduna State Police Command has vowed to prosecute all individuals involved in a mob action that led to the death of a woman on false allegations of child stealing in Maraban Jos, a suburb of the state capital. The incident occurred on Sunday, 21 June 2026, and has been strongly condemned by the police as barbaric and criminal.

Mob Attack and Rescue Attempt

According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Mansir Hassan, at about 10:00 hours, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Maraban Jos received a distress call that a woman was being attacked by a mob over allegations of child theft without any proof. The DPO swiftly led officers to the scene, rescued the woman, and moved her to the police station for safety and investigation.

Despite the rescue, a large crowd of hundreds later stormed and besieged the police station, overpowered officers on duty, forcibly removed the woman from custody, killed her, and set her body ablaze. The victim was a native of Maraban Jos.

Police Condemnation and Investigation

The Command described the act as “barbaric, criminal, and a direct assault on the rule of law,” stressing that no person or group has the authority to take the law into their own hands. DSP Hassan stated, “Several suspects have already been arrested in connection with the incident, and a manhunt is ongoing for others involved. A comprehensive investigation has commenced, and all culprits will face the full weight of the law.”

The Commissioner of Police, CP Rabiu Muhammad, warned that “the Command will not tolerate jungle justice, mob action, or attacks on police formations and personnel.” He urged citizens to report suspicious persons or activities to the police and allow due process.

The statement concluded that the Kaduna State Police Command remains committed to protecting lives, property, and upholding justice in accordance with the law.
