Katsina Police Crack Down on Unregistered Vehicles, Hidden Number Plates
Katsina Police Crack Down on Unregistered Vehicles

The Katsina State Police Command has announced a crackdown on unregistered vehicles and concealed number plates across the state. This enforcement follows a directive from the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, aimed at strengthening internal security and enhancing crime detection.

Enforcement Details

In a statement released by the command’s spokesperson, DSP Abubakar Aliyu, the police warned that any vehicle found violating registration rules would be impounded, investigated, and offenders prosecuted according to existing laws. Motorists are urged to regularize their vehicle registration and ensure number plates are clearly visible and compliant.

The enforcement targets vehicles with no registration or fake/duplicate plates; plates that are covered, concealed, obscured, defaced, mutilated, dented, or altered to impair visibility; and the use of manufacturer logos, artistic inscriptions, or unauthorized formats instead of official registration numbers.

Rising Criminal Tactics

The command noted the increasing use of hidden, missing, or unauthorized registration plates by criminal elements to evade identification and frustrate policing efforts. Such practices pose direct threats to public safety, as they hinder proactive policing and crime detection.

Professional Conduct Ordered

The Commissioner of Police, CP Ali Umar Fage, has directed all Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and Tactical Commanders to enforce the directive strictly. He charged officers to maintain the highest level of professionalism and civility, warning that extortion, intimidation, or harassment will attract severe disciplinary action.

Members of the public are advised to report officer misconduct through the Command’s emergency lines or the Police Public Relations Office. The command urges motorists to comply and residents to report suspicious vehicles operating under questionable circumstances to the nearest police station.
