Conviction for Double Murder at Vaughan Nightclub
A Canadian court has sentenced 31-year-old Kensworth Alton Francis to life imprisonment for the murders of two Nigerian men, Tosin Amos-Arowoshegbe and Chibueze Momah, who were fatally shot at a nightclub in Vaughan, Ontario, in July 2022. The sentencing took place on June 19, 2026, at the Ontario Court of Justice in Newmarket.
Details of the Crime
The shooting occurred at the ATL Lounge, located near Highway 7 and Keele Street, at approximately 3:30 a.m. on July 23, 2022. Both victims, Amos-Arowoshegbe (25) and Momah (22), were employed as security guards at the venue. According to investigators, a fight broke out inside the lounge before the gunfire erupted. A 20-year-old woman was also injured in the incident, suffering serious injuries but surviving.
Investigation and Arrest
Following the shooting, the York Regional Police homicide unit, along with the U.S. Marshals Service and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, launched an investigation. A Canada-wide warrant was issued for Francis. Nearly two years later, on March 24, 2024, Francis was arrested by the U.S. Marshals Service in Hartford, Connecticut, and subsequently extradited to York Region to face trial.
Trial and Sentencing
A jury found Francis guilty of two counts of first-degree murder and one count of unlawfully causing bodily harm. He received two life sentences for the murder convictions, with no eligibility for parole for 25 years, and an additional eight-year sentence for unlawfully causing bodily harm. All sentences are to be served concurrently.
