Delta Police Arrest 20-Year-Old for Stabbing Brother to Death in Sleep
Man, 20, arrested for allegedly killing brother in Delta

The Delta State Police Command has made two significant breakthroughs, arresting a young man for the alleged murder of his brother and dismantling a criminal gang terrorising Agbor and its environs.

Fraternal Tragedy in Ogwashi-Uku

In a shocking incident of domestic violence, police in Delta State have arrested a 20-year-old man, Aliyu Haman, for allegedly stabbing his younger brother to death. The State Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, confirmed that the tragic event occurred in the early hours of January 8, 2025, at Poly Road near Adaigbo Filling Station in Ogwashi-Uku.

A distress call was received by the Ogwashi-Uku Division at approximately 7:31 a.m., reporting that a 20-year-old male had been fatally stabbed while he was asleep around 3:20 a.m.. Responding swiftly, the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Israel Okoyomon, mobilised detectives to the scene.

Preliminary investigations pointed the finger at the victim's own brother. Aliyu Haman was immediately arrested, and the weapon believed to have been used in the crime was recovered by the police. The body of the deceased has been moved to the Odua Mortuary in Ogwashi-Uku for an autopsy as detectives work to unravel the motive behind the killing.

Police Smash Motorcycle-Snatching Gang in Agbor

In a related development, the Command's intelligence-led operations have led to the arrest of two suspected armed robbers in Agbor. The operation was initiated following investigations into a reported armed robbery case that took place on December 24, 2025.

Acting on credible intelligence, operatives led by the DPO of Agbor Division, CSP Michael Obekpa, conducted a targeted operation on January 4, 2026, at about 10:45 p.m. This resulted in the arrest of two suspects: Owakwe Chuks, 37, and Bright Moses, 32.

The duo are alleged to be part of a gang specialised in snatching motorcycles from unsuspecting residents in Agbor and neighbouring communities. Items recovered from the suspects include:

  • A hammer used to inflict injuries on victims
  • A short knife
  • A brown face mask and a face cap
  • A mobile phone

Command Reaffirms Commitment to Safety

Reacting to these developments, the Commissioner of Police, CP Aina Adesola, reiterated that the protection of lives and property remains the top priority of the Command. He assured residents that the police would continue to pursue criminals decisively through intelligence-driven operations, sustained patrols, and visible policing.

As investigations into both cases continue, the police have urged the public to remain vigilant and to cooperate with law enforcement agencies by providing timely and credible information. These incidents have sparked renewed concerns over domestic violence and youth-related crimes in Delta State, highlighting the need for stronger community-based strategies to address insecurity.
