Delta State Police Command has made a shocking arrest following a fatal family dispute in Ogwashi-Uku. A 20-year-old man is now in custody, accused of stabbing his own brother to death while the victim slept.
Police Swiftly Respond to Early Morning Tragedy
According to an official statement from the command's spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, the grim report reached the Ogwashiku Division at approximately 7:31 AM on January 8. The incident, however, had occurred much earlier in the dead of night.
The report indicated that at about 3:20 AM on the same date, a young man was killed at Poly Road, by the Adaigbo Filling Station in Ogwashi-Uku. The victim was reportedly attacked and stabbed while he was asleep.
Investigation Points to Familial Suspect
Upon receiving the distress call, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) for Ogwashi-Uku Division, CSP Israel Okoyomon, did not waste any time. He promptly mobilized a team of detectives to the scene of the crime to commence investigations.
Preliminary investigations by the police quickly revealed a tragic twist. The prime suspect in the killing was identified as the deceased's own brother, Aliyu Hamman, a 20-year-old male. The police moved swiftly to apprehend the suspect.
Weapon Recovered, Suspect in Custody
In a significant development for the case, the police confirmed that the weapon allegedly used in committing the crime has been recovered. This evidence will be crucial as the investigation proceeds.
SP Edafe further stated that the body of the deceased has been evacuated from the scene. The corpse was deposited at the Odua Mortuary in Ogwashi-uku for a thorough autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
The suspect, Aliyu Hamman, is currently in police custody. The Delta State Police Command has assured the public that a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding this fratricide is actively ongoing.
