Man, 25, arrested for stabbing friend to death in Kano

The Kano State Police Command has apprehended a 25-year-old man following a fatal altercation that claimed the life of his friend. The suspect, Mustapha Isma'il, is accused of stabbing 24-year-old Halifa to death in the Sheshe area of Kano metropolis.

Details of the Tragic Incident

The violent episode occurred on December 26, 2025, around 8:30 pm. According to the police, a dispute erupted between the two friends, which escalated dramatically. The State Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, confirmed that the suspect allegedly used a knife to stab the victim in the stomach.

Upon receiving an emergency call, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, swiftly deployed officers to the scene. They found the victim bleeding profusely. He was rushed to the Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital for urgent medical attention, where a doctor later confirmed him dead.

Suspect's Confession and Police Action

Mustapha Isma'il was arrested immediately at the scene and taken to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for interrogation. During questioning, the suspect provided his account of the events leading to the tragedy.

He claimed the fight started while they were watching a movie on a mobile phone in front of a shop. The situation deteriorated when the victim, Halifa, suddenly rushed toward them. An argument ensued after Isma'il warned that his phone should not be damaged. The suspect alleged that the deceased hit him with an object, causing him to bleed.

"I went home, picked up a knife and stabbed him. Later, I heard that he had died. I regret my actions. If I had known it would lead to his death, I would not have stepped out of my house that day," the suspect stated remorsefully.

Ongoing Investigation and Public Advisory

CSP Kiyawa stated that the suspect has already pleaded guilty to the crime. The police spokesperson emphasized that investigation is ongoing and the suspect will be charged to court upon its completion.

In light of this incident, the Kano Police Command issued a strong advisory to the public, particularly the youth. They urged people to remain calm and avoid resorting to weapons or violence whenever misunderstandings arise. The police stressed the importance of peaceful conflict resolution and the severe consequences of taking the law into one's own hands.

This case adds to the concerns about violent crimes among youths in the state and highlights the need for community-based interventions to address anger management and conflict resolution.
