Man Arrested for Pouring Hot Cooking Oil on Wife in Lundazi Domestic Violence Incident

A 52-year-old man has been arrested in Lundazi District, Zambia, for allegedly pouring hot cooking oil on his wife, in a shocking case of domestic violence that has drawn attention from local authorities. Eastern Province Police Commanding Officer Robertson Mweemba confirmed the arrest, stating that the incident took place on April 13, 2026, around 23:00 hours in the Chikaya Compound area.

The victim, identified as 34-year-old Ketina, sustained significant injuries, including a bruised and swollen face, as well as harm to her left ear, eye, and neck. Reports indicate that both Ketina and her husband had gone to work earlier that day, leaving their four children under the care of a maid. After work, Ketina reportedly visited a friend and returned home around 22:00 hours.

A marital dispute erupted when her husband questioned her about her whereabouts, which quickly escalated into violence. During the altercation, the suspect allegedly poured hot cooking oil on Ketina's face, causing the severe injuries. Mr. Mweemba emphasized that police acted swiftly upon receiving the report the following day at Lundazi Police Station, leading to the prompt apprehension of the suspect.

The suspect has been formally charged with Assault, categorized as Gender-Based Violence (GBV), and is expected to appear in court on April 15, 2026.
