Pistol Found Concealed in Bread Leads to Arrest in Asaba

The Delta State Police Command has made a startling arrest, capturing a suspected armed robber and kidnapper after finding a fabricated Beretta pistol cleverly hidden inside a loaf of bread. The incident occurred during a routine security operation in the state capital.

The Arrest and Discovery

On November 6, 2025, at approximately 8:45 p.m., operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) were conducting a stop-and-search operation at the Koka Roundabout in Asaba. Their attention was drawn to 24-year-old Nnamdi Stanley Chibuike from Ogbeowele Quarters, behind General Hospital, Asaba, due to his suspicious behaviour.

A thorough search of the suspect led to the unexpected discovery of the concealed weapon. The police immediately took Chibuike into custody. According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, the recovered pistol has been secured as an exhibit while investigations continue to uncover his potential links to armed robbery and kidnapping cases in Asaba and nearby communities.

Police Commendation and Ongoing Operations

The Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Abaniwonda Olufemi, praised the RRS operatives for their vigilance and professionalism. He described the discovery as evidence of the command's sustained, intelligence-driven operations aimed at curbing crime.

CP Olufemi reaffirmed the command's determination to identify, arrest, and prosecute criminal elements, regardless of the tactics they employ. He urged residents to remain vigilant and to provide credible information to the police, assuring that all reports would be treated with the strictest confidentiality.

In a related development, the police command has recorded other significant breakthroughs in its crackdown on violent crime. In a separate operation, following a report about a disturbing video on a WhatsApp group named "Real Men," police arrested 29-year-old Donatus Odovo in the Aviara community under the Oleh Division.

Subsequent interrogation led to the arrest of 36-year-old Zachariah Okeh, who is alleged to be an Eiye cult leader in the area. A search of his residence yielded a cache of firearms, including one locally made double-barrelled gun, one locally made single-barrelled gun, and six live cartridges.
