A Nigerian social media user has ignited a fresh controversy by demanding the arrest of an Islamic cleric, known as Olopameta, over a troubling prophecy concerning popular Fuji music icon, King Saheed Osupa. The user invoked specific Nigerian laws, arguing the cleric's actions were criminal.
The Viral Prophecy and Legal Backlash
The incident stems from a now-viral video where cleric Olopameta claimed that God revealed to him that Fuji star Saheed Osupa would die on January 10, 2026. To avert this fate, the cleric prescribed a religious sacrifice involving a white ram and intense prayers where his name must be mentioned.
Reacting strongly, a Facebook user with the handle The Peoples Parliament called for immediate legal action. He specifically referenced Section 249 of Nigeria's Criminal Code, which deals with conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace, and also cited laws against criminal intimidation.
"This Alfa should be arrested immediately for conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace under Section 249 of the Criminal Code, and for criminal intimidation and threat to 'kpai' Saheed Osupa," the user wrote. He emphasized that "the law does not see it as such", referring to the prophecy, and reminded all that "ignorance of the law is no excuse."
Mixed Public Reactions Flood Social Media
The call for arrest has triggered a wave of diverse reactions from other netizens, highlighting the divisive nature of the cleric's prophecy.
Some users supported the legal angle, suggesting the cleric should be questioned. Habeebullahi A. Sanni remarked, "He will explain better when he gets to the station.." Another user, Vanessa Ugwoegbu, cryptically referenced a past incident involving singer Portable, warning, "Go and ask portable what happened that time. Oke-kura beckons you."
Others criticized the cleric's approach, even if they believed in visions. Adegboye Ebenezer Adeola commented, "Even if it is a vision is this how you should put it? Some of you just have brain without using it." Similarly, Adekunle Oladimeji AbdulFatai noted, "Even if God gives vision to some people (I don't believe in it tho) and you apply it this way, then the vision will not happen anymore."
Some reactions took a more sarcastic tone. Ibe Amara Anekwe stated, "When hand touch this one e go tell us na devil's handwork," while Efeya Declan White pointed out a loophole: "Why una dey give una self hbp? January 10 is almost here but the only problem is he did not mention the year lo."
Osupa's Recent Public Appearance Amidst Controversy
Amid the brewing online storm, Saheed Osupa was recently spotted in good spirits alongside fellow Fuji legend, Wasiu Alabi Pasuma. The two attended the 15th-year remembrance ceremony of Fuji pioneer, the late Ayinde Barrister.
Videos from the event, which circulated online, showed a heartwarming exchange between Osupa and Pasuma. Their joint appearance and camaraderie were particularly noted by fans, as the two icons were once perceived to be rivals in the music industry.
The unfolding situation presents a complex intersection of faith, law, and celebrity culture in Nigeria. While the cleric stands by his divine revelation, a segment of the public is holding him to the standards of the country's penal code, setting the stage for a legal and social debate.
